Lempuyang Temple, things to do
Pura Lempuyang is one of the oldest temples in Bali. Pura Lempuyang is a sacred place used by Hindus for prayers. Lempuyang Temple is located on the slopes of Mount Lempuyang / Bisbis in Karangasem, East Bali. Surrounded by tropical jungle it breaths with traditions, architecture and opens a wonderful view to the Mount Agung. The temple area is large, there are 3 high temple gates with a lot of steps, and the most interesting is the Gates of Heaven.
If you want to capture the moment in Balinese style, no worries you can also rent Balinese traditional clothes there to capture your best moment in Lempuyang temple. There are also many shops, restaurants and toilets everywhere nearby.
Heaven gate is the most haunted photo spot by visitors, they are even willing to queue for hours to get a view of Mount Agung. The queue number for taking pictures at this gate is already listed on the entrance ticket. So if the queue to your number is still long, and you feel bored, you can take pictures at other spots, such as the 3 towering gates.
Besides that there are also some spots that you can try, which are located in a restaurant not far from the temple. Maha kencana restaurant, they have a rooftop view of the majestic mountain and interesting props such as swings and angel gardens. No need to pay to take pictures in this place, just show the bill of the food you have ordered. If you don't eat at this restaurant, you can still take pictures by paying - no worries, they are on standby above to take your picture.

Gates of Heaven, Most popular spot
Lempuyang temple is a sacred Hindu temple in bali. Besides that, Lempuyang temple is also famous for photography spots. One of the most interesting and much hunted spots for visitors is a bali style gate. They called it the Gate of heaven.
Now the question is, we can find many Bali style gates in every corner of Bali, but why should we go to Lempuyang temple just for the gate? That's because of the view behind the gates. Lempuyang temple is located on the slopes of Lempuyang mountain which is directly facing the highest mountain in Bali, Mount Agung. You can imagine the view, that's why many visitors are willing to queue for hours just to capture the moment at the gate of heaven.
Photo effect of Gates of Heaven
After seeing photos of the gate of heaven on the internet, you might be wondering if the puddle in front of the gate is real or fake. There is no puddle or lake in front of the gate as you see in the photo, it's just a photo effect taken by the guide using a small black glass and keeping it right under the cellphone camera, so that it gives a reflection image that looks like a puddle or a lake. But even without using reflections, it does not reduce the beauty of the gate of heaven with a view of Mount Agung and an open sky. So with or without reflections, the gate of heaven is still worth to visit and to capture your lovely moments.
How to get to the Temple
To get to Lempuyang temple make sure to always choose the main road or car route on maps, because there are several small roads to get to Lempuyang temple, but the road is very plowing and steep. So to be safer, we recommend choosing the main road. Access to Lempuyang temple can be passed by motorbike or car. If you come from Denpasar you can pass through the Candidasa area and Amlapura town. We were staying in Amed so we headed to Lempuyang temple through jl. Ida Ketut Jelantik. Don't forget to always use the car route and main road, considering there are many small and dangerous roads.
Parking is well available here, but the parking lot is far below the temple. You can park your car or motorcycle, and you are required to go to the entrance of the temple using the shuttle bus. There is no way to get to the temple other than using the shuttle bus, the shuttle bus ticket per person is IDR 45,000 to take to the temple and pick up. The way from the parking lot to the temple is about 10 minutes.
Best time to go to Lempuyang Temple
Lempuyang temple is always crowded with both local and international tourists. We recommend visiting Lempuyang temple in the morning. As in the morning the air is still fresh, the sky is clear to see Mount Agung from the temple, there are less people. And of course not to get into a long queue to take pictures at the heaven gate view of Mount Agung.
